As a part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, National Service Scheme Unit, Youth Red Cross Wing of Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology and Management, Bantakal, Neharu Yuva Kendra, Udupi, Women’s Club Shirva, District Legal Services Authority jointly organized one-day workshop on “Theme based education and awareness program for youth” on 24 February 2023 in the institute premises.
Mr.Rathan Kumar Shetty, President, Grama Panchayath Shirva was the chief guest and inaugurated the program by lighting the lamp. In his Inaugural address to the gathering, he said that the public awareness and education is a great way to highlight the need for crime prevention in youth community. The important thing is to get key prevention information out to the target audience like youth, adults or children and encourage them to take action in preventing or reducing crime.
The first session of the program on the topic “Drug abuse and Prevention” was taken by Mr. Prashanth Shetty, Zonal Trainer, JCI India. He explained about various types drugs, drug addiction and preventive measures against drug. Also he said that children and youth must be given maximum awareness about ill effect of drug use.
The second session of the program on the topic “Awareness of Law among Youth” was taken by Mr. Birthi Mithesh Shetty, Advocate, Udupi. He explained that children and young people can be instrumental as a target group to raise awareness and education are one of the powerful weapons to unfold legal consciousness in our society. Elementary knowledge of the law is crucial as it is turning into a compulsory perquisite for our society due to a rapid surge in crimes, frauds, misrepresentation, illegal activities, infringement or suppression of civil human rights thus eventually setting for injustice.
The third session of the program on the topic “Clean Society, Healthy Society” was taken by Mr.Anantha Padmanabha Nayak, Panchayath Development Officer, Shirva. He started with the presentation about various categories of waste like dry and wet waste and also explained the process of waste segregation.
The last session on the topic “Personality Development” was taken by Ms.Revathi Nayak Kadthala from NRLM, Udupi. She started her speech with the importance of personality development and said that personality depends on confidence and it comes from knowledge.
Earlier Ms. Geetha Wagle, President, Women’s Club Shirva, welcomed the gathering; Mr. Wilfred Dsouza, District Youth Officer, Neharu Yuva Kendra, Udupi briefed about the importance of such programs.
Dr. Thirumaleshwara Bhat, Principal; in his presidential address expressed his pleasure and pride of having seen variety of service activities that has been conducted by National Service Scheme in the past years and gave his best wishes for the events to be held in the future.
Ms. Amrutha 1st year student, invoked the blessings from the Almighty. Ms. Sameeksha and Shreya Shetty introduced the guests. Mr. Nagaraja Rao, Coordinantor, NSS-YRC Unit, proposed vote of thanks. The program was compeered by Ms. Amrutha and Ms. Shreya Shetty. More than 200 students including Faculty, Staff, members from Women’s Club Shirva were participated in the program.
