Prof. Dr. Thirumaleshwara Bhat, an academician and administrator of great repute joined SMVITM as Principal on 3 July 2015.

He had his basic education at Sathya Sai Institutions, Alike, Dakshina Kannada district. He completed his engineering graduation vwith the 7^th rank from Adichunchanagiri Institute of Technology (AIT) Chikmagalore, affiliated to Mysore University in the year 1988 and had his master’s degree (M.Tech) from the National Institute of Technology, Karnataka (NITK), Surathkal in the year 2000. He was awarded Ph.D. from Manipal University in the year 2006 for his research in the area of polymer composites.

Prof. Bhat started his professional career in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at S.N. Moodabidri Polytechnic, Moodabidri, where he served as a lecturer for more than six years. In the year 1996, he joined Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT), Manipal, one of the most reputed technical education institutes in the country, as a Senior Lecturer and was eventually promoted as Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering.  After tenure of 12 ½ years at MIT, he joined St Joseph Engineering College, Vamanjoor, Mangalore as Professor & Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering in 2006 and continued in that position for 8 years.  He played a key role in the development and growth of the department during this period and in recognition of his contributions, he was elevated as Dean (Quality Assurance) and continued serving till June 2015. During his stint as Dean, Prof. Bhat was instrumental in focusing and implementing the concept of Outcome Based Education in all the departments.

Considering the services and contributions of Dr. Bhat towards engineering education, the management of SMVITM appointed him as Principal of the institute and Professor in the Department Mechanical Engineering in July 2015.

Prof. Bhat has 30+ years of teaching experience, which includes administrative and research experience of 14 years. He has guided five research scholars so far and currently five research scholars are pursuing their doctoral degrees under his guidance.

He has presented 2 research papers in national conferences and journals and 20 research papers in international conferences and journals. His areas of interest include advanced materials and manufacturing technology. He is a life member of Indian Society of Technical Education (ISTE) and Institution of Engineers (IE). He has been a member of the Board of Studies of various reputed engineering colleges and a member the Board of Examination of Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belagavi. He has delivered a number of invited lectures in areas like Advanced Materials, Manufacturing Technology and Outcome Based Education.

No doubt, the students of Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology and Management (SMVITM) Bantakal certainly answer these questions “Yes, we are” because of the fact that they have received quality engineering education and have undergone all kinds of training required to become an excellent professional.

SMVITM has been established in the year 2010 by Shri Shri Vishwavallabha Theertha Swamiji of Shri Sode Vadiraja Matha Udupi under the auspices of Shri Sode Vadiraja Mutt Education Trust® with the objective of providing holistic and value based engineering education to the students at an affordable cost. In the short span of ten years, the Institute has achieved many milestones such as Accreditation by “National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC)’ with A-Grade, prizes won by the staff and students in the national level flagship events such as Hackathon, Mapathon, project competitions, University level sports and games..etc. Amazing academic performance and excellent placements are the other major achievements by our students. It is very much heartening to convey that more than 67% of our alumni from the seven outgoing batches have been serving many reputed organizations of our country and abroad. Also a good percentage of our alumni pursued/pursuing post-graduation and doctoral degree program.

The college is located in a lush green sprawling campus spread over 70 acres of sylvan land in a picturesque village called Vishwothama Nagar, Bantakal, near the world famous temple town ‘Udupi’.
