The Department of Mechanical Engineering of Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology and Management organized a two-day hands-on automotive workshop on the 3rd and 4th of April, 2023 in the institute. The workshop was conducted under the aegis of the institutional Electric Vehicle Club in association with Yamaha Udupi Motors.
Mr. Ananth M Mallya, one of he EV club coordinators, welcomed the gathering. Mr. Titus Suvares introduced the other two resource persons. Dr. Sudarshan Rao, Dean (IQAC), addressed the audience and spoke about the importance of IC engine vehicles even when electric vehicles are becoming popular.
The workshop was attended by a large number of interested students. The resource persons Mr Titus Suvares, Mr Amar and Mr Ravindra took the students through a guided tour of the history of Yamaha vehicles, followed by hands-on sessions on disassembling and assembling a Yamaha R-15 liquid cooled engine.
The students thoroughly enjoyed the sessions and were enlightened on the intricacies of an internal combustion engine. They were taken by surprise when they saw the number of parts that need to work together in synchronization for an engine to perform as it should.
The technicians also demonstrated the location and purpose of various filters that are used in two wheelers. The students were explained the differences between BS-4, BS-6 and RDE Emission Norms. The improvement in technology has recently pushed up the cost of two wheelers in the country, and this was explained to the students.
The sessions ended with the presentation of appreciation letters to the resource persons by Ms. Akshatha Rao, one of the EV club coordinators. The workshop was heartily appreciated by the attendees.
