Session on “Rights of Women and Gender Equity”

The Women Empowerment Cell in association with College Internal Compliance committee of SMVITM organized a session on “Rights of Women and Gender Equity”, for the students of the College on 02-12-2022 at 3pm in seminar hall of admin block. The resource person was Mrs. Shyamala S. Kundar, Former Member, National Commission for Women. More than 100 students participated and benefited by the program. The session was lively and interactive. In her talk she said discrimination between girls and boys starts from home during childhood itself. For a nation to develop in the proper direction, gender must be valued equally. When both genders have equal access to opportunities, a society’s development improves in all areas. Equal rights in decision-making, health, politics, infrastructure, and profession, among other areas, will undoubtedly propel our society to new heights. Since divorce is still frowned upon in Indian culture, many women are trapped in abusive unions. They are afraid to speak up for their rights because they lack power.

She also added the government and several NGOs are making efforts to empower women by creating awareness. The government is running a large number of projects for education and skill development of women. The way society thinks is likewise evolving gradually. A growing number of women are receiving high-quality educations. But when gender inequity is eradicated, the actual meaning of women’s empowerment will be realized.

Dr. Thirumaleshwara Bhat, Principal and Dr. Ganesh Aithal, Vice Principal, faculty, staff and students were present for the program. The program was compered by Ms. Vimitha, Assistant Pofessor, ECE Department.
