Session on “AIDS-Prevention is the only cure” at SMVITM

As a part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav and on the occasion of World AIDS Day, National Service Scheme (NSS), Youth Red Cross Wing (YRC) of Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology and Management, Bantakal, Udupi, in association with Indian Red Cross Society, Udupi organized an awareness talk on “AIDS-Prevention is the only cure” on Thursday, 01 December 2022 in the institute premises. Dr. Keerthi, Certified First Aid Trainer, Indian Red Cross Society, Udupi was the resource person. Dr. Keerthi, started her presentation with the theme of World AIDS Day 2022, which is “Equalize” which emphasizes eliminating the inequalities that have slowed the fight against the disease. The inequalities, such as gender inequality, limit women’s access to HIV care and other forms of sexual and reproductive health care, which in turn affects their decision-making capabilities and their capacity to decline unwanted sexual encounters or negotiate for safer ones. She shared the facts and medically accurate information about HIV & AIDS and elucidated the symptoms of HIV and treatment of AIDS. She highlighted that AIDS awareness is essential and as HIV infection is currently incurable, but one can control it with good quality education about the disease, especially in rural areas. Also she said that it was once an unmanageable chronic health condition, but now, with advances in HIV prevention, diagnosis, manage, and care including for opportunistic infections, people with HIV can live long, and healthy lives. Dr.Thirumaleshwara Bhat, Principal; Dr.Ganesh Aithal Vice Principal; conveyed their best wishes to the program. Ms. Chandana, 3 rd year CSE welcomed the gathering and
compeered the program. Ms. Adithi Nayak, 2 nd year CSE introduced the guest and Ms. Manvitha, 3 rd year CSE, proposed vote of thanks. Mr. Nagaraja Rao, Coordinator NSS conducted the program. More than 300 students including faculty were participated in the program.
