The department of Mathematics in association with the faculty chapter of Indian Society of Technical Education (ISTE) of Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology & Management (SMVITM), Bantakal and Pilikula Regional Science Centre (PRSC), Mangaluru organised an invited talk on 23 December with the title ‘Mathematics -We experience’ on the account of “National Mathematics Day” to commemorate 133rd birthday of the great Indian Mathematician Shri Srinivasa Ramanujan.
Dr. Raghavendra A, Principal, Poornaprajna College, Udupi was the resource person. In his talk he spoke about how mathematics is experienced in life. People use mathematics in every aspect of life knowingly or unknowingly. He illustrated how the mathematical solutions are found or thought of for different problems. He also explained how mathematical inventions were made in India from the prehistoric era till date.
Dr. Thirumaleshwara Bhat, Principal, SMVITM, provided the brief introduction about the program. Dr. Vasudeva, Professor and Dean R&C of SMVITM delivered the introductory session on “The man who knew infinity – Srinivasa Ramanujan”.
As part of the National Mathematics day celebration, a quiz was conducted to students and faculty members.
The program was streamed live on the YouTube channel of the institute. About 400 science and maths teachers of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district were part of the event online. Ms.Renita Sharon Monis, Sr. Assistant Professor, Department of Mathematics compered the program. The event was sponsored by Pilikula Regional Science Center Mangalore.
