The 2nd year ECE students Ms. Aishwarya, Ms. Bhoomika, Ms. Chaitra and Mr. Srivasthsa, along with 3rd year Mechanical Engg student Mr. Anish Upadhya, took part in the 2-week long LEAD prayana from 19 Jan to 02 Feb 2020. Organized by Deshpande Foundation Hubballi, the LEaders Accelerating Development (LEAD) Program fosters innovative and entrepreneurial thinking within college students by exposing them to social issues and by encouraging them to volunteer their time and effort into the community. LEAD ignites their latent talent to come up with creative solutions and implement the same. It is an incubator where innovation meets implementation, knowledge meets experience, social issues meet solutions and efforts meet impact.
As part of this program, the students interacted with many renowned personalities which include the Founder of Deshpande Foundation Sri Gururaj Deshpande, the Vice Chancellor of VTU Dr. Karisiddappa, the Dharmadhikari of Dharmasthala Sri Veerendra Heggade, the Director of Alvas’s group of institutions Dr. Mohan Alva, Ex DCP of Udupi Mr. Annamali, Param Veer Chakra awardee Mr. Yogendra Singh Yadav, IPS Officer Mr. Ravi Channavar, founder of Classic Magazine Mr. Laxman Uppar, Theatre artist Mr. K G Krishnamurthy, and many more.
The students visited Asia’s largest kitchen Akshaya Patra, Infosys Mysuru campus, alternate school for children at Kaliyuva mane Mysuru, Samarthanam Trust Bengaluru for the differently abled children, Mahesh Foundation school for the HIV positive children, Kalkeri Sangeetha Vidyalaya, Police Department, Vishal Natural Food industry, Dharmasthala temple, Moodabidre Alvas Institutions, MAHE Manipal, Malpe beach and many other places. They visited a village by name Hirebendigeri, where they lived like a villager for a day without modern gadgets, and helped the villagers in their daily household works and field works. There they also conducted a street play on women abuse and women empowerment.
By this exhaustive educational tour, the students developed leadership skills, innovative approach and entrepreneurial mindset to become constructive contributors to society. The institute congratulates all the five students who participated in the prayana, and wishes them a bright future
