Beach Cleaning program at Malpe beach

As a part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, The National Service Scheme (NSS), Youth Red Cross (YRC) and Eco Club of Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology and Management, Bantakal, in association with Ministry of Earth Sciences, Govt. of India, Vigyan Prasar, New Delhi, Karnataka Science and Technology Academy (KSTA), Bengaluru, Pilikula Regional Science Centre, Mangaluru organized Beach Cleaning program at Malpe beach on Friday, 02 September 2022 under the theme “Clean Coastal, Safe Sea-Campaign”.

A group of 200 student volunteers of NSS-YRC and Eco Club along with Mr. Nagaraja Rao, Institutional NSS –YRC Unit Coordinator and staff members of SMVITM participated in the beach cleaning program. They selected around 800 meters stretch of the beach and collected heap of non-biodegradable items, footwears, glass bottles, plastics, food wrappers and polythene bags. Subsequently, the waste was segregated and disposed properly. The beach cleanups help to raise awareness around plastic pollution and the current impacts of plastic on our environment. Clean beaches are essential to healthy coastal habitats and the wellbeing of people who visit them. Dr. Thirumaleshwara Bhat, Principal, SMVITM, Bantakal, Dr.Ganesh Aithal Vice Principal conveyed their best wishes to the program. The members of Grama Panchayath Malpe and the authorities of Beach Development Association appreciated the work carried out by the Institution.
