Language Lab

About the Lab

The Language Lab at SMVITM is a state-of-the-art audio-visual equipment to aid in imparting language skills. The Laboratory is effectively utilized by students and faculty members for various self-enhancement and soft skill development activities. Laboratory proves beneficial for those students who are poor in use of English language. Students from rural areas who are generally weak in English can have sufficient ear training in the language lab. It aims at confidence-building among students for interactions and presentations in English. The basic purpose of the lab is to provide students a platform to enhance English language skills, communication skills and to practice soft skills.

Standard Operating Procedure
  1. Language Laboratory is a supporting facility in which is mandatory requirement stipulated by AICTE to be implemented as part of teaching activity in SMVITM. All the Departments and Study Programs in SMVITM use Language Laboratory to enhance the English Competence.
  2. Language Lab committee members are the In-charge of language lab. The departmental coordinator monitor language lab department wise.
  3. Faculty members and students enter Language Laboratory by taking off the footwear and put them on the shoes shelf. The purpose is to make English Language Laboratory keep clean and neat.
  4. Students put the bags on the next to their chairs, and turn their cellular phones off. It is for the comfort and convenience of teaching learning process.
  5. Students are permitted to enter the Language Lab only with their Identity Card.
  6. Students sign in the user attendance book.
  7. Each user either faculty member or student must be responsible to the English Language Laboratory equipment.
  8. Students listen the content of audio by putting the headset.
  9. Students listen attentively and focus to the announced recording, and write down the important points, and make sure about the whole process with concentration, so that it will be effective for the developing of comprehension skills among them.
  10. Students do the assignments given by the faculty members by the following methods:
    • To follow the pronunciation of words and sentences.
    • To change the form/ type the sentences.
    • To listen audio conversation: monolog, dialogue.
    • To answer the exercises.
    • To discuss the content of audio conversations.
    • To give the comments.
    • To do the individual or group exercises.
  11. Before the course ends, the faculty member closes the teaching learning process by giving the conclusion of the content, in order to confirm that the students know about the content they have taught clearly.
