ORIENTATION PROGRAM FOR FRESHERS

Shree Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology& Management (SMVITM), Bantakal organized an orientation program for the newly admitted B.E. students at the institute premises on 2 August 2015. The major objective of the program was to make the parents and students aware of the academic aspects of the course, the rules and regulations of the institute and ensuring parental participation in monitoring the performance and progress of the students.

The program started withpaying homage to the former President Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, who passed away recently and had made a visit to SMVITM and interacted with the students in April 2014.

The program was inaugurated by the chief guest,Dr. B. N. Suresh, President of Indian National Academy of Engineering, Delhi and former Director of Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, Thiruvananthapuram.

In his address to the newly inducted students, Dr. Suresh said thatone had to make distinctions between science, technology and engineering. While science is the generation of knowledge, technology is the application of the knowledge created by science and engineering uses technology to make products and services on a mass scale to solve the day to day problems faced by society.  According to him, there were many pressing problems in the country that required lasting and sustainable solutions.  Engineering students should try to find solutions to such problems by combining the attributes of curiosity, observation and innovative thinking. He urged the students to have clear goals, focus on the set goals, involvement in their work and discipline to be successful engineers who would ultimately contribute to the progress of the nation.

Giving an overview of the progress SMVITM had made over the short period since inception, Dr. Radhakrishna S. Aithal, Director SMVITM highlighted the major achievements of the institute on both the academic and non-academic fronts, includingthe visit made by late Dr. A. P. J. AbulKalam, former President of India to the institute and his interaction with the students. He highlighted the major accomplishment of the institute over the years and outlined the future plans of development, which included the establishment of Centres of Excellence at the institute in collaboration with internationally renowned academicians and organizations.

Ms. Raviprabha the Student Welfare Officer briefed about the rules and regulations regarding student behavior and the student services offered at the institute. She requested the students and parents to understand and abide by the institutional rules and norms.

Dr. Lolita PriyaCastelino, Head of the Department of Mathematics gave necessary information about the academic design of the first year B.E Course and the University and institute rules and regulations regarding academic matters.

Mr. Ratnakumar,Secretary,Shri Sode Vadiraja Mutt Education Trust (SSVMET),Udupi, who presided over the function, expressed the management’s gratitude to the parents and students for having faith and confidence in the institution and conveyed the management’s commitment and determination to transform the institute into one of the best ten in the state or even a university in the near future. He assured a few students and parents, who shared their views and expectations on the occasion that their concerns and hopes would be adequately addressed and fulfilled by the institute and the management.

Toppers from the 2015 passed out batchesstudents and top CET rankers among the first year students of the institute were recognised and congratulated on the occasion.

Dr. Thirumaleshwara Bhat, Principal welcomed the gathering and Dr. Radheshyam, Head, Department of Civil Engineering introduced the chief guest. Dr. A Ganesha, Dean (Academics) proposed the vote of thanks. Ms.Aishwara Bhat rendered an invocation and Ms. Soumya Bhat and Ms. Ramyashree anchored the program.
