Report on the workshops held in ECE department.

The department of Electronics & Communication Engineering, SMVITM, conducted two workshops during Jan 2015 vacation, for the benefit of the students.

The first workshop titled “Digital Image Processing using Matlab” was conducted by Tech-Talk Systems Pvt. Ltd., Bengaluru, on 5, 6 & 7 Jan at CAED lab, Main Block, SMVITM. The resource persons were Mr. Pavan Kumar and Mr. Ashwin. Seventy one students of the pre-final year ECE and CSE branches participated in the workshop and enriched their knowledge and skill in image processing. During the workshop, the students got hands-on training in image processing, spatial domain image enhancement techniques, transform domain techniques, etc. Prof. Dr. Radhakrishna S. Aithal, Principal of SMVITM, who was present during the first session, congratulated the students for enrolling in the workshop in large numbers. Prof. Dr. Balachandra Achar, HOD of ECE, welcomed the gathering. Ms. Niveditha introduced the resource persons to the gathering. Mrs. Shashikala R, Asst. Professor, distributed the certificates to all the participants at the end of the workshop.

The second workshop titled “Robo Vision” was conducted by Technophilia Systems, Mumbai, on 9 & 10 Jan, at DSP Lab, ECE block, SMVITM. Mr. Sachin Bhide was the resource person who conducted the workshop efficiently. Thirty seven students of ECE, CSE and Mechanical streams participated in the workshop and increased their skills in robotics. At the end of the workshop, Mr. Sachin conducted a contest in which all the students participated in groups of four. The group which stood first in the contest will participate in the national level robotics contest to be held in March at IIT Bombay. Prof. Dr. Radhakrishna S Aithal, Principal of SMVITM, who was present during the inaugural session motivated the students to participate in various robotics contests being held in different engineering colleges. He also remembered the visit of Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam to the institute, during which he was welcomed by a robot built by the students of SMVITM. Prof. Dr. Balachandra Achar, HOD of ECE, welcomed the gathering and introduced the resource person. Mr. Nagaraja Rao, Sr. Asst. Professor, distributed the certificates to all the participants at the end of the workshop.
