A talk on “Career Opportunities in Defense Sector” was organized by the Training and Placement Cell of SMVITM Bantakal in association with ISTE Students Chapter on 11/10/2018 from 11:00AM to 12:30PM in Seminar Hall Admin Block by Squadron Leader (Sqn Ldr) Naveen Amanna (retd.) Indian Air Force. The speaker served the Indian Air force for 20 years between 1990 and 2010.
In his talk, Mr Naveen highlighted the requirements and the physical fitness, mental fitness, self-motivation and academic percentage criteria to join the Indian Air Force. He further discussed the opportunities for engineers in the defense sector in general.
He went on to talk about the roles that engineers play in the Indian defense sector, sharing his experience on how engineers maintain weapons, starting from small rifles to heavy artillery. He mentioned the importance of communication, individual and team spirits, ability to perform under intense pressure and reacting positively in any situation
He also talked about eligibility criteria, including physical as well as psychological fitness to take on-the-spot decisions. He also talked about SSB (Service Selection Board), and explained the registration process, selecting either permanent or short-term commission services.
The faculties of the Mechanical Engineering Department along with 69 students of final and pre-final years attended the session. The students interacted with the resource person and gained clarity on several aspects pertaining to serving in the Indian Air Force.
Mr Karthik V and Mr Manjunath S Asst. Professors, Department of Mechanical Engineering welcomed the gathering, introduced the speaker to the gathering, and proposed the vote of thanks.
Professor and Head of the Deparment of Mechanical Engineering Dr. Sudarshan Rao K welcomed the speaker formally and honoured him at the end of the event. Mr Lingaraj Ritti and Mr Manjunath S Asst Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering coordinated the event.
