Talk on Career Opportunities in Defense Sector

It is well known fact that the graduates from undivided Dakshina Kannada district don’t have enough exposure to join the prestigious defense sectors of our country.  Thinking in the direction of addressing this issue, the training & placement cell of SMVITM Bantakal in association with ISTE Students Chapter have organized a very informative session on “Career Opportunities in Defense Sector” on Thursday, 11 October 2018 in the college premises. Squadron Leader Naveen Amanna (retd.), who has served Indian Air Force for 20 years was the guest for this program and inspired the students to join defense sector after their graduation.

In his talk, Mr Naveen highlighted the basic requirements such as the physical fitness, mental fitness, self-motivation and academic percentage criteria to join the Indian Air Force. He further discussed on the opportunities for engineers in the defense sector in general. Also he mentioned the importance of communication, individual and team spirits, ability to perform under intense pressure and reacting positively in any situation.

Later he explained the requirements such as eligibility criteria, including physical as well as psychological fitness to take on-the-spot decisions; role of SSB (Service Selection Board) in the recruitment process and other related information about the recruitment to defense sector.

The final and pre-final year students and the faculty members of mechanical engineering department have availed the benefit of the program held.

Mr Karthik V and Mr Manjunath S Asst. Professors, Department of Mechanical Engineering welcomed the gathering, introduced the speaker to the gathering, and proposed the vote of thanks.

Professor and Head of the Deparment of Mechanical Engineering Dr. Sudarshan Rao K welcomed the speaker formally and honoured him at the end of the event. Mr Lingaraj Ritti and Mr Manjunath S Asst Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering coordinated the event.
