SMVITM Marks Engineers’ Day 2026 with Tributes to Engineering Excellence and IEEE Student Leadership

Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology and Management (SMVITM), Bantakal, celebrated Engineers’ Day 2026 on 16 September 2026, commemorating the 165th birth anniversary of Sir M. Visvesvaraya, one of India’s most eminent engineers and statesmen. The celebration highlighted the vital role of engineers in nation-building and encouraged students to embrace innovation, professional excellence, ethical responsibility, and lifelong learning.

The programme was graced by Dr. P. Subbanna Bhat, Former Professor, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, NITK Surathkal, as the Chief Guest. Addressing the gathering, Dr. Bhat emphasized the importance of strong engineering fundamentals, innovation, ethical responsibility, and the role of engineers in addressing emerging societal challenges. His inspiring address encouraged students to continuously upgrade their knowledge and contribute meaningfully to technological advancement.

As part of the programme, Dr. Bhat also delivered a special lecture on “Scientific Heritage of Bharath”, engaging faculty members, staff, and students with insights into India’s rich scientific and technological contributions.

In his presidential remarks, Shri H. V. Gowthama highlighted the significance of Engineers’ Day and the enduring legacy of Sir M. Visvesvaraya. He urged students to make effective use of their engineering education and develop into responsible professionals who can contribute to the progress and development of the nation.

A key highlight of the celebration was the Installation Ceremony of the IEEE Student Branch Office Bearers. The newly appointed office bearers were formally inducted into their respective positions, marking the commencement of their tenure. The ceremony reaffirmed SMVITM’s commitment to fostering technical excellence, professional development, innovation, leadership, and community engagement among students through IEEE activities.

Shri Rathnakumar, Secretary, SSVMET, Udupi; Dr. Radhakrishna S. Aithal, CEO, SODE Group of Institutions; and Dr. Nagaraj Bhat, Principal, SMVITM, Bantakal, were present on the occasion.

The celebration served as a meaningful platform to honour the engineering profession while inspiring the student community to carry forward the spirit of innovation, responsibility, and service exemplified by Sir M. Visvesvaraya.
