The Department of Basic Science at Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology and Management, in association with the NSS Unit, successfully organized “Aakriti” – a Model Exhibition and Competition for First-Year Students, while the Co-curricular Committee and Hobby Project Club of SMVITM, in association with the IEEE and the Institution’s Innovation Council, conducted “Tech Showcase 2026” – a Mini Project Competition and Exhibition on 15th May 2026 at the institute premises.

The event served as a dynamic platform to promote innovation, creativity, experiential learning, and practical problem-solving skills among students by encouraging them to transform ideas into working models and projects. Students enthusiastically showcased their creativity through live demonstrations, technical presentations, working models, and project displays, reflecting their technical aptitude and innovative thinking.

The programme was inaugurated by Ms. Sridevi Rao, an alumna of SMVITM and Cloud Expert at Niveus Solutions, Udupi, who inspired students by highlighting the importance of engaging in meaningful projects that strengthen resumes and improve career readiness. Recalling her experiences of participating in project competitions during her student years from 2012 to 2016, she encouraged students to actively take part in such opportunities to develop technical competence and confidence.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Sudarshan Rao K, Dean Academics, emphasized that knowledge is an invaluable asset that cannot be taken away, and encouraged students to actively participate in project development activities as a means of gaining practical exposure, strengthening conceptual understanding, and enriching their academic journey.

The exhibition witnessed an impressive participation of 81 models presented by first-year students under “Aakriti” and 69 mini projects showcased by first, second, and third-year students under “Tech Showcase 2026.” Students enthusiastically demonstrated their innovations through working models, posters, banners, and presentations, attracting the attention of visitors across the institution.

The CEO, Principal, Deans, Heads of Departments, faculty members, and students visited both exhibitions, interacted with participants, and appreciated the innovative ideas and technical efforts demonstrated by the students.

To recognize and encourage excellence, cash prizes were awarded to the three best models and six best projects, while 15 models and 3 projects received consolation prizes for their commendable efforts and creativity.

The valedictory ceremony was graced by Ms. Kavyashree U, an alumna and Senior QA Engineer at EGDK India, who served as the Chief Guest and distributed prizes to the winners, motivating students to continue pursuing innovation and practical learning.
