AI & DS Students Develop AI-Based Jasmine Plant Health Monitoring System

Students Kavya, Prajna, Shreepriya, and Shreya Shetty from the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science at Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology and Management (SMVITM), Bantakal, have developed an innovative AI-based system for monitoring the health of jasmine plants.

The project was carried out under the guidance of Dr. Rajesh Nayak, Head of the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, and focuses on the early detection of plant diseases and nutrient deficiencies. The system integrates soil nutrient analysis with leaf image processing techniques to provide comprehensive insights into plant health.

Leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) technologies, the system analyzes various plant health indicators and identifies potential issues at an early stage. The solution enables farmers to take timely corrective measures, thereby reducing crop losses and improving overall productivity.

By providing actionable recommendations for crop management, the system supports efficient cultivation practices and contributes to sustainable agricultural development. The project is particularly beneficial for jasmine growers, helping them enhance crop yield and maintain healthier plantations through data-driven decision-making.

This innovative work demonstrates the capability of SMVITM students to apply emerging technologies to address real-world challenges in agriculture and develop intelligent solutions that support sustainable farming practices.
