From Campus to Chip: Preparing Students for Careers in VLSI and Semiconductors

The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, in association with the Alumni Cell, organized an industry-oriented talk titled “From Campus to Chip: Preparing for a Career in the VLSI and Semiconductor Industry” on August 22, 2026, at the Seminar Hall, Admin Block. The session was attended by 62 students of VII Semester ECE.

The programme featured Mr. Dhanush Kumar, Layout Design Engineer, Karmic Design Pvt. Ltd., and Mr. Shreesha Nayak, Trainee Engineer, Karmic Design Pvt. Ltd., as resource persons. Drawing from their academic and professional experiences, they introduced students to the fundamental digital and analog concepts expected for technical roles in the VLSI and semiconductor industry.

A major focus of the session was technical interview preparation and presentation skills. The resource persons discussed strategies for approaching technical and HR rounds, presenting technical knowledge with confidence, and preparing effectively for semiconductor-sector recruitment. They also shared insights into the interview processes at Mirafra Technologies and Karmic Design Pvt. Ltd.

The resource persons further provided students with a practical understanding of the semiconductor industry by discussing their roles, day-to-day responsibilities, workplace environment, and the technical skills expected from aspiring professionals. This helped students gain a clearer picture of industry expectations and potential career opportunities in the VLSI domain.

The session was highly interactive, with students actively participating and seeking clarification on various technical and career-related aspects. The discussion provided valuable industry exposure and helped bridge the gap between academic learning and professional requirements.

The programme was coordinated by Ms. Chandana, Assistant Professor, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, while Ms. Shravya Thantry of VII Semester ECE served as the Master of Ceremony.

The session successfully equipped students with practical insights into VLSI careers, semiconductor recruitment, technical interviews, and workplace expectations, motivating them to strengthen their technical and professional skills for future opportunities.
