Invited talk on “Rights under Constitution and Protection of Women in Working Environment”

The College Internal Complaints Committee (CICC) of SMVITM, Bantakal, had organized an Invited talk on “Rights under Constitution and Protection of Women in Working Environment” for the faculty and staff members on 20th November 2020 from 2.30 pm to 3.30 pm.

On this occasion, the Principal briefed about the importance of the College Internal Complaints Committee of the Institute, as well as its roles and responsibilities.

Adv. Vani V. Rao, in her talk, explained the rights of women in India; both the Constitutional Rights and Legal Rights. i.e. Right to Equality, Right to Freedom, Right to Life, Right against Discrimination, etc. She highlighted the Vishakha and Geetha Hariharan case and mentioned the new laws and amendments that were implemented because of these cases. In addition to that, she also explained how the Sexual Harassment of Women at Work Place Act (2013) works and what is the necessity of enforcing it – it provides protection to women from sexual harassment at all workplaces, both in the public and private sector, whether organized or unorganized.

The talk was conducted for the benefit of the teaching and non-teaching staff of the institute. Dr. Principal, Vice Principal, Deans, Lolita Priya Castelino, Coordinator-CICC, HODs, the teaching,and non-teaching staff members were present during the talk. The program was compered by the Student Welfare Officer (SWO) of SMVITM, Dr. C K Manjunath.
