World Ozone Day

“Prakriti” ECO club unit of Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology & Management (SMVITM), in association with Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB), as part of International Ozone Day observance, organized a guest talk on 16 September 2016.

The guest speaker, Dr. Badekai Ramachandra Bhat, Professor of Chemistry Department, NITK, Surathkal made a presentation on the importance of the ozone layer in the atmosphere and how the UV rays affect the human life. He also elucidated the precautions that could be taken to protect the ozone layer by countries, organizations and individuals. He emphasized the need to impart knowledge and spread awareness about the far reaching consequences of the depletion of ozone in the atmosphere and how the use of CFC in refrigerators and air conditioners affect the ozone and scientist are working on it to replace them.

Dr.Lakshmikanth, Environmental Officer of KSPCB, Regional Office, Udupi gave an overview of International Ozone Day. The guest talk was followed by an interactive quiz session on ozone, conducted by the ISTE student chapter office bearers Ms. Anusha Pai & Mr. Shrivishnu for the students of SMVITM. The ISTE Student Chapter members Mr. Y. Suhas Kumar welcomed the gathering; Mr. K. Aneesh Bhat introduced the guest speaker. Prof. Dr. Thriumaleshwara Bhat, Principal, SMVITM; Heads of Departments, Mr. Siju V Soman, ISTE Coordinator; faculty members and students were present.
