The CodeTroopers club organized an online workshop on ‘The Basics of HTML and CSS’ on the 10th and 11th of May 2021, for the benefit of the members of Codetroopers club. This workshop would be followed by a 24-hour ‘Webathon’ competition, that the participants could attend to test their newly learnt skills. The committee members of the CodeTroopers club were instrumental in organizing and promoting the event. The Designing Team of CodeTroopers under the leadership of Mr. Mohammad Sahil (Designing Head), prepared the creative poster for the event. Ms.Navya Shanbhag (Marketing Head) and the Marketing Team of CodeTroopers, actively promoted the event on social media platforms to encourage maximum participation.
The sessions were delivered by Mr.Aniketh Shenoy, a second year student from CSE. The workshop aimed at introducing the basics of HTML and CSS, so as to cultivate among the participants an interest in the area of web development and also to help them take their first steps in their journey as a web developer. Ms. Kirthi Nayak, Treasurer of the CodeTroopers club, gave the welcoming speech.
The second day of the workshop consisted of deep-diving on the concepts already discussed on day 1. The participants were introduced newer tags and shown how to build a more responsive website. Day 2 focused more on understanding the logic behind the various lines of code for the responsive version of the resumé website built by Mr. Aniketh. He explained various formats and provided cheat sheets to design creative layouts. CSS-related topics like google fonts, color picker, inspecting layouts were introduced to the participants. Towards the end of the workshop, Mr.Aniketh gave helpful tips and hacks to the participants to make their code stand-out. The participants were actively responsive on both days of the workshop. The first day of the workshop began with an introduction to the definition of HTML, CSS and Javascript. Mr. Aniketh introduced an open source IDE, ‘Atom’ and had the participants install this on their systems. While the installation was in progress, Aniketh organized a couple of fun puzzles for the participants to solve. The quickest responders would be awarded with a javascript game. Based on the responses from day 1 and day 2, Vaishnavi D, Vikram Girish Thunga, Shravya CS and Shweta Ramachandra Bhat were awarded with the promised game. The workshop proceeded with the demonstration of building a basic resumé website, along with introduction to concepts like boilerplate, reference websites such as MDN and W3Schools, various tags and also a brief introduction to CSS.
Feedback forms were sent to the participants at the end of the workshop on each day, prepared by the marketing team of CodeTroopers under the leadership of Ms.Navya Shanbhag. Ms. Aninditha (Media Head) of CodeTroopers, took minutes of meeting and helped prepare the report while the media team clicked screenshots of the event. After rounds of discussion by the panel of Judges (Technical team of CodeTroopers), the winner of the Online Webathon was announced in the official group of CodeTroopers on Telegram. Ms. Shwetha Ramachandra from third year CSE won the competition and was awarded with a Udemy coupon for ‘The Complete 2021 Web Development Bootcamp’ by Dr.Angela Yu, worth ₹500.Mr. Raunak Choudhary, President of the CodeTroopers club, then announced the theme, ‘Portfolio Website’, for the 24-hour ‘Webathon’ to be held soon after. The rules and regulations, and judging criteria for the Webathon were explained to the participants. Participants were encouraged to register in the event and hone their newly acquired skills. Mr. Deepak Nayak from fourth year CSE, explained hosting the website on Github based on which the participants would be evaluated for the competition. Ms. Kirthi Nayak concluded the workshop with the vote of thanks.
