Technical Talk on “Geopolymer concrete”

The Student Chapter of Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE) in association with Civil Engineering Department of Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology & Management (SMVITM), Bantakal organised technical talk at the institute premises on 22 March 2017.

Dr. N Bhavani Shankar Rao, Professor, Dept. of Civil Engineering, NMAMIT-Nitte and Former Professor & Dean (Administration), NITK, Surathkal delivered a lecture on “Geopolymer concrete”. Dr. Bhavani Shankar started his lecture with the introduction to concrete thereby he explained its properties and uses. Later on he explained the difference between the geopolymer concrete and nominal concrete. He discussed the composition, mechanical and other properties of geopolymer concrete. The talk was beneficial for the students to understand that geopolymer concrete is an ecofriendly construction material and an alternative to cement concrete. Use of geopolymer reduces the demand of cement which is responsible for high CO₂ emission.

The Principal of SMVITM, Prof. Dr. Thirumaleshwara Bhat, Prof. Dr. B. Radheshyam, Head of the Department of Civil Engineering, Faculty and Staff members were present during the occasion. Ms. Sahithya Shetty introduced the resource person while Ms. Chaithanya Shet welcomed the gathering and compeered the program.
