Student Council Inauguration.

The inauguration of the student council of Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology & Management, (SMVITM) Bantakal, Udupi and the swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected members of the student council for the year 2015 –16 were held at the institute on 3 September 2015.

Dr. Harishchandra Hebbar, Director, School of Information Sciences, Manipal University was the chief guest on the occasion. Inaugurating the council, Dr. Hebbar said that the council should strive to make a positive impact in the students by acting as an interface between the students and the administration. According to him, the inspiration that came from within was always better than from what came from outside. He also urged the council to take up some public service that would improve the lives of the local population.

Dr. Bharath Ballal, a professor at IIT Mumbai, who was a guest of honor on the occasion, said that the major difference between science and engineering was that, while the former was an attempt to discover what was already there in nature, the latter was the endeavor to create products and services that did not exist. It was a discipline that was rather transformative than evolutionary. The change engineering brought in was like that of the transformation of a pupa into a butterfly rather than of a calf growing into a cow. In that sense, engineering was more in tune with creative endeavors like sculpture, painting and poetry. He told the students that they were as good as they thought they were. To feel good about oneself one had to be absolutely honest with oneself and progressively improve upon one’s past abilities and attainments. If one had something to do, one may better do it well, said Dr. Ballal.

Dr. Thirumaleshwara Bhat, Principal of SMVITM urged the students to be observant and understand their subjects well and apply their knowledge in their professional lives for the betterment of themselves as well as the society.

Mr. Rathnakumar, Secretary, Shri Sode Vadiraja Mutt Education Trust, Udupi presided over the function. During his presidential address, he advised the students to be very productive and involve in all the activities of the college including academics. Mr. Deviprasad Shetty, President of the council thanked the students and the management for the trust and confidence reposed in the members of the council.

Ms. Raviprabha, Student Welfare Officer, SMVITM administered the oath of office to the newly elected members of the council. Prof. Dr. A. Ganesha, Dean (Academics) welcomed the gathering and Aswath Jangannath, General Secretary of the council proposed a vote of thanks. Dr. Radhakrishna S. Aithal Director, SMVITM was present.
