The CodeTroopers Club of the CSE department in association with the ISTE Student Chapter of SMVITM organized a communication skilling event – “Spitballing – Can you think and talk quick enough?” on the 24th and 25th of May through online mode. The judges for the competition were Dr. Vasudeva (Dean, Research and Consultancy) and Mr. Deepak Rao M (Assistant Professor (Senior), CSE Department). Mr. Raunak Choudhary, President of the CodeTroopers Club and Joint-Secretary of ISTE Student Chapter hosted the event.
The competition consisted of two rounds. The first round held on 24th May was a JAM (Just a Minute). A Python Script containing random topics was run for every contestant. The participants were then given a thirty second head-start for collecting their thoughts before giving their one-minute talk. Nine out of the twenty participants were qualified for the second round.
The second round held on 25th May was a pitching round. A common theme/problem statement: “Technology for Lockdown” was announced at the end of round one and the qualified participants from the first round had to prepare a presentation on the said theme and submit them before the second round. They then had to present their idea/solution to the problem statement using their presentation to the judges. The focus of this round was to present a blueprint of the solution in form of a technology that can be adopted during the Lockdown to solve different types of problems in various domains.
After an interesting round of some very creative pitching, the event came to a close. Dr. Vasudeva addressed the competitors and congratulated them for their active participation. He urged the students to be active thinkers and ideators, who provide solutions instead of just “creating problems”. Mr. Deepak Rao M also addressed the participants and encouraged them for their brilliant participation and motivated to take similar active participation in future events. Mr. Raunak Choudhary thanked everyone for participating and making the event a successful one.
After the tallying of scores, Mr. Aniketh Shenoy (4th semester, CSE Department) was declared as the winner and Mr. Nishith Shetty (4th semester, CSE Department) was announced as the runner-up. The Designing, Media, Marketing and Technical team of the CodeTroopers club helped organize and promote the event.
