The Department of Training and Placement of SMVITM organized a one-week intensive training program for the final year students with the objective of orienting them towards the preparation for the upcoming campus recruitments. During this program, several expert trainers from neighboring institutions and experts from industry addressed the students as resource persons.
On 22 July 2013, Prof. B. S. Revankar, Member of Shri Sode Vadiraja Mutt Education Trust and GC member of SMVITM inaugurated the program by lighting the lamp. In his inaugural address, Prof. Revankar stressed upon the significance of such programs and appealed to students for making the best use of the program. Shri Ratnakumar, Secretary of Shri Sode Vadiraja Mutt Education Trust was the Guest of Honor. In his address, he said that the Management was keen that most of the first batch students get placed by the end of their course and he also assured them of the full support of the Management in organizing more such programs. In his presidential remarks, the principal, Prof. Dr. Radhakrishna S Aithal advised the students to make the best use of the program. Prof. Dr. A Ganesha, Dean (Academics) briefed about the importance of the program. Prof. Shashi Kumar Rao from Civil Engineering Department welcomed the gathering and Prof. Venugopala Rao A S, Coordinator Department of Training and Placement proposed the vote of thanks.
Day 1: Prof. B.S. Revankar was the first speaker of the weeklong event. He gave a few insights into the do’s and don’ts while attending job interviews and also gave some tips on how to make one’s communication effective.
Mr. Dinesh Kumar B.V, a private consultant from Bangalore had a session on various types of tests during interviews. He also shared his experiences as an interviewer during several campus recruitment drives.
Day 2: Prof. Dr. Kumara Shama, Professor in Electronics and Communication Engineering, MIT Manipal engaged the participants in a session on “Overview of Campus Recruitment Process”. He elaborated on the various aspects of campus interview process during the session.
Prof. Benny Mathews, Asst. Professor, Department of English, SMVITM made a presentation titled “From Butler English to Better English.” In his presentation, he highlighted some common mistakes made by people while using English and how these mistakes can be corrected.
Day 3: Prof Rashmi Bhandari, Training and Placement Officer, Canara Engineering College, Mangalore gave a talk on “Company Perspective of Campus recruitment and Tips & Guidelines for Facing Campus Interviews”.
Prof. Niranjan Prabu, Dept. of Commerce, Manipal University spoke on “Personality Development Phase-1 and Managing Interviews” . In this session, Prof. Prabhu focused on how one has to present oneself during an interview and how one has to be mentally prepared before the actual interview.
Prof. Dr. A Vittaleshwar, ICAS Manipal elaborated on various issues related with campus recruitment/placement opportunities in a highly competitive world through his talk on “Contemporary Employability Scenario”
Day 4 had two sessions by Prof. Raghavendra Holla, MIT Manipal on “How to make an effective Technical presentation?” and “How to Face Interviews Elegantly”. In his second session, he addressed some common mistakes students make or wrong practices followed by them while attending interviews. He demonstrated the correct gestures to be adopted during interviews to the participants.
Day 5: Mr. Mrityunjai Tiwari from ABB India Ltd., Bangalore and Mr. Pradyut Kumar from Mu-Sigma Ltd., Bangalore addressed the students focusing on how to take part in group discussions and how to prepare for aptitude tests. They also shared some tips for cracking the campus interview with the students.
Prof. Dr. Lewlyn Raj Rodrigues, MIT Manipal, spoke on “Promoting Motivation and Leadership Skills”. In this session Dr. Rodrigues focused on qualities of a leader, differences between leader and a manager and he further explained the seven steps to achieve success.
Day 6: had Prof. Dasharathraj Shetty, Prof. Praveen Shetty from MIT Manipal and Prof. Aditya Shetty from MIM, Manipal engaging the group the entire day with group discussions, mock interviews and mock stress interviews.
The Valedictory program was organised in the afternoon. Prof. Venugopala Rao A S, Institutional Coordinator, Department of Training and Placement welcomed the gathering. The Chief Guest was Dr. Niranjan U.C., Director (Training and Research), Manipal Dot Net who stressed on the importance of developing technical competency to survive in a world of global competitiveness. Shri Ratna Kumar, Secretary, SSVMET complimented the students on their outstanding performances in techno-cultural fests organized by various institutions and also hoped that SMVITM students would outperform others in the campus recruitment process as well. In his presidential remarks, Prof. Dr. Radhakrishna S Aithal stressed the necessity of such training programmes and explained the initiatives taken by the institution for arranging campus recruitment. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof. Shashikumar Rao, Civil Engineering Department.
