Under the auspices of Paryaya Shri Pejavar Ahokshaja Mutt, Shri Sode Vadiraja Mutt Education Trust (SSVMET), Udupi and Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology & Management (SMVITM), Bantakal, Udupi, jointly organised a pre-counseling and career guidance program at Rajangana in Udupi on 29 May 2016. The major objective of the program was to give guidance to students who had cleared their PUC exams in general and those who had appeared for the Common Entrance Test (CET) 2016 conducted by the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) in particular in getting admission to undergraduate programs, especially to professionalcourses.

Mr. Balachandra Bhat, former KEA Nodal Officer for Uttara Kannada District, who talked on and Dr. Vijayendra Rao, an Udupi based dentist,  who is a career guidance expert were the resource persons at the program. Mr. Bhat spoke on CET Counseling Process: What is new this year? and Dr. Rao on Prospects and Challenges of pursuing a Career in Engineering, Medical & Allied Fields on the occasion.

Inaugurating the program, Shri Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji of the Pejawar Mutt said that India had been emerging as a world-power and engineering played a pivotal role in transforming the country into a player to reckon with on the world stage. He urged the engineering aspirants, who attended the program to contribute their bit to the development of the nation and wished them well.

During his session, Dr. Rao threw some light on the issues and confusion prevailing with respect to the conduct of NEET and reassured the medical aspirants that the nation-wide common entrance test would be rather beneficial to the students than detrimental to their career aspirations.  He also emphasized the importance of designing and taking one’s own career path rather than just following the path designed by somebody else. Dr. Rao further delineated the necessary steps one had to take to approach and take up any career with confidence and assertiveness.

Mr. Bhat explained the nitty-gritty of CET counseling for the current year and clarified many doubts such as the allotment of seats under CET counseling, the documents to be produced at the verification stage, payment and conditions for refund of the fees, what SNQ means, how to verify the credentials of the institute/college before taking admission etc. raised by professional course aspirants and their parents who attended the program. He also clarified that no students or parents should panic when the allotted seats had not been of their chosen college and branch during first round allotment, as the surrendered seats by the private colleges would be available for option entries only during the second or subsequent rounds.

Making a brief presentation, Profile of a Promising, Prospective Engineering Institution: SMVITM, Bantakal, Prof. Dr. Thirumaleshwara Bhat, Principal of SMVITM detailed the major distinguishing features of the Institute.
