Shri Sode Vadiraja Mutt Education Trust (SSVMET), Udupi and Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology & Management (SMVITM), Bantakal, Udupi organised a pre-counseling and career guidance programme at Poorna Prajna College auditorium in Udupi with the objective of guiding the candidates, who had appeared in the Common Entrance Test (CET) 2014 conducted by the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA), and their parents in getting admission to professional colleges in the state on 18 May 2014.
Prof. Balakrishna S. Maddodi, Head of the Academic Section, Manipal Institute of Technology, who made presentation on Prospects and Challenges of pursuing a Career in Engineering, Medical & Allied Fields and Mr. Balachndra Bhat, KEA Nodal Officer for Uttara Kannada District, who talked on CET Counseling Process: What is new this year? were the resource persons at the program.
Prof. Maddodi, during his presentation, gave an overview of the career-oriented undergraduate courses in medicine, engineering, general science, arts, accounts and management and explained the relative job prospects and benefits of most of the courses. According to him, without a genuine interest in the subjects one chooses, one is bound to be disappointed later and even failures in his/her careers and hence it was important to identify one’s area of interest before selecting a professional course.
During his session, Mr. Balachandra Bhat explained the nitty-gritty of CET counseling for the current year and clarified many doubts such as the allotment of seats under CET counseling, the documents to be produced at the verification stage, payment and conditions for refund of the fees, what SNQ means, how to verify the credentials of the institute/college before taking admission etc. raised by professional course aspirants and their parents who attended the program.
Making a short presentation titled Profile of a Promising, Prospective Engineering Institution: SMVITM, Bantakal, Prof. Dr. Radhakrishna S. Aithal, Principal of SMVITM detailed the major distinguishing features of the Institute. Dr. Aithal also urged the prospective professional course students to make use of the free of cost facility provided by SMVITM, with necessary technical guidance, to make their online option entry from 9 am to 5 pm on the specified days as announced by KEA at SMVITM campus in Bantakal and at Shri Sode Vadiraja Mutt Education Trust Office, Bhoovaraha Complex, Car Street, Udupi.
Mr. Ratnakumar, Secretary, SSVMET reiterated the trust’s commitment to offer affordable quality education to the weaker and down-trodden sections of society and quoted the examples of a few socially and economically backward students who were generously supported by the trust and able to do extremely well in their PUC examinations.
The program was inaugurated by the Vice President of SSVMET, Mr. P. Srinivas Tantry by lighting the lamp and compeered by Prof. Raviprabha and Prof. Venugopal Rao. Dr. Ganesha A, Dean (Academics), SMVITM welcomed the gathering and. Dr. Radheshyam, Head of the Department of Civil Engineering proposed a vote of thanks. The Programme was attended by Mr. Raghavendra Tantry, Prof. Harish B, Heads of the Departments and members of the faculty and staff.
