The department of Mathematics in association with the faculty chapter of Indian Society of Technical Education (ISTE) of Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology & Management (SMVITM), Bantakal organized an invited talk on 22 December with the title Srinivasa Ramanujan: Life and Legacy on the account of “National Mathematics Day” to commemorate 134th birthday of the great Indian Mathematician Shri Srinivasa Ramanujan.
Dr. B. R. shankar, Professor, Department of Mathematical and Computational Sciences, NITK, Surathkal was the resource person. In his talk he spoke about his early life and how Hardy helped Ramanujan to recognize his works on number theory. Also, he explained about how Ramanujan independently developed and investigated Bernoulli’s number and Euler coefficient. He concluded the session by giving the significant contributions to Mathematics by Ramanujan.
Dr. Lolita Priya castelino, HOD of Mathematics welcomed the gathering and briefed about the importance of the day. Ms. Shrutha Bhat, III year CSE introduced the chief guest. As part of the National Mathematics day celebration, a quiz was conducted for students and faculty members by Mr. Bhargavram, IV year CSE. The program was compered by Ms. Ananya Bhat from IV year CSE.
