Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology & Management (SMVITM), Bantakal in Udupi district is inaugurating its Research & Development (R&D) Centrefor “Technology Up gradation of Cashew Processing Equipment” at the institute premises, in Mechanical Engineering Department, on Monday, 31 August 2015 at 9.00 AM.
India is the largest cashew growing country and the cashew kernels are processed and exported to various western countries like Europe and United States. Undivided Dakshina Kannada district is well known for the cashew crop and more than 200 cashew processing industries are operating in the district. Many of theseindustries are facing the problems like availability of skilled labour, short supply of cashew and use of old technology equipment etc. Considering these, with the intention of helping the cashew industries, Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology, Bantakal has established a R&D centre in the institute with the objective of helping the cashew industries and under taking research work in the field of cashew processing to address these problems. The contribution of this R&D centre can be of great help to the cashew processing industries in and around the district and across the country.
The research centre is sponsored by Karnataka Council for Technological Up gradation, Bengaluru recognising the capability, interest and development of the institute in short span of time in the region. Institute has spent equal amount in setting up the infrastructure and provide the necessary facility required to establish the centre. The centre will be inaugurated by honourable minister of state for urban development Sri Vinaya Kumar Sorake.
