Women Empowerment Cell (WEC), Counseling Cell and Human Right Cell (HRC) in association with the National Service Scheme (NSS) of Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology and Management (SMVITM), Bantakal organized a talk on “Drug addiction and Road Safety Awareness” on 11 October, 2017 in the institute premises. Shri Rishikesh Sonawane, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Karkala, was the resource person for the occasion. He guided the students by giving detailed information about the various offenses under IPC related to manufacturing, selling, purchasing and using narcotics. He also spoke about fundamental rights and duties of every Indian citizen. He concluded by orienting the assembled young minds towards road safety by showing a few videos of deadly accidents that had happened due to pure negligence and over-confidence. Prof. Dr. Thirumaleshwara Bhat, Principal, SMVITM, briefed about the program and delivered his message on the occasion. Shri Narasimha Shetty- Sub Inspector, Shirva Police Station, Heads and a few interested faculty members from various departments, Institutional NSS/YRC/RC Coordinator Mr. Kishor Kumar Aroor, Women Empowerment Cell coordinator Dr. Lolita Priya Castelino, Counseling Cell coordinator Ms. Shashikala, Human Right Cell coordinator Mr. Srinivas Naik and other departmental coordinators, many staff members of Shirva Police station and all the office bearers of NSS/YRC, RC WEC, Counseling Cell and HRC were present on the occasion.
