Human Rights Cell of Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology and Management(SMVITM) Bantakal conducted a guest talk on ‘COSMETIC FORMULATIONS’ on 14 March 2018. Dr. Mahalaxmi Rathnanand, Associate Professor in the department of pharmaceutics, MCOPS, Manipal was the resource person. The talk was attended by the first year students of various branches of the institute.
Dr. Mahalakshmi during her talk explained Cosmetics are substances or products used to enhance or alter the appearance of the face or fragrance and texture of the body. Many cosmetics are designed for use of applying to the face, hair, and body.
Briefing about their preparation she added that they are generally mixtures of chemical compounds. Some being derived from natural sources (such as coconut oil), and some being synthetics or artificial.
Cosmetics applied to the face to enhance its appearance are often called make-up or makeup. Common make-up items include: lipstick, mascara, eye shadow, foundation. Whereas other common cosmetics can include skin cleansers and body lotions, shampoo and conditioner, hairstyling products (gel, hair spray, etc.), perfume and cologne.
Dr. Ratnananda also told that today’s generation is addicted for more usage of cosmetics and preferably this must be reduced to enhance the natural beauty of the users.
The lecture was interactive and many students got cleared their doubts about the use of cosmetics in their daily life.
