COMMUNICATION SKILLS DEVELOPMENT

The language club (English club) was organized with an intension of developing a good hold over the English language in order to strengthen the placement and communication skills among the students.

The club was led by the resource person Mr. K. Devanand Updhyaya under the guidance of various faculties of the respective branches. The sessions conducted for 2^nd year students of SMVITM for the academic year 2017-18. During the odd semester, students from ECE & CSE considered for the training. During even semester, Students of Civil & Mechanical given training. Total of around 300 students got benefited from this training program.

The club initially begined with the basics of communication and soft skill development, wherein few useful tips were given to the students which includes

-Newspaper reading

-Hearing motivational speeches

-Magazine and novel reading etc.

The resource person helped the students in overcoming their stage fear by stressing on few important topics like

-Ideation

-Encoding

-Transmission

-Reception/Receiver

-Decoding

The personality development was also an area of concern wherein the students were informed regarding the attiqutes to be followed while giving seminars, power point presentation etc.

However the students were also informed about the interview calls etc.

Apart from the useful information that he conveyed, he also organized various activities for the student’s inorder to boost their confidence level

Every individual student was made to give 10mins speech on any random topic of their interest which helped the students to get an idea regarding stage talks and speech , it also drove away the stage fear they possessed this activity was carried out under the supervision of the faculties .This activity helped the faculties as well as the resource person to known the weakness of every student in terms of their communication skills and confidence level , which helped them to concentrate more upon the students who needed actual guidance.

Apart from the class activities , A club was organized by the name ‘speaking club’ led by the students themselves supervised by the faculty incharge  wherein, among the club itself numerous small  groups were created and each group was made to give seminars or power point presentations on the topic which would again be related to the communication itself.

Therefore, the activities helped the students to implement the things learnt from the resource person during the initial classes.

Overall the program helped the students to understand the importance of soft skills and personality development and also helped those to improve themselves in the communication domain which would inturn strengthen their confidence level to face any stage competitions and interview calls with the atmost knowledge and idea.
