Bantakal students developed ‘Domestic Rice Mill with Destoner’

Final year Mechanical Engineering students at Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology and Management (SMVITM), Bantakal have developed ‘Domestic Rice Mill with Destoner’. This project work was carried out by Mr. Anshuman, Mr. K N Shreesha Achar, Mr. Rohan U Palan, and Mr. Vikram under the guidance of Mr. Ananth Mohan Mallya, Senior Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering.

At present, the small scale paddy cultivating farmers also will sell the paddy to rice mills for processing. These farmers will not process paddy into rice because of non-availability of the required machineries for processing at affordable costs. The income of the farmers will increase if the farmers themselves process paddy into rice. Keeping this in mind, the students have developed power operated portable Domestic Rice Mill with Destoner. This machine will initially separate stones and sand from paddy. Later, the paddy will undergo dehusking and finally husk is separated from the paddy using blower. The same machine can also polish the rice, if needed. This machine will be useful for the farmers who are cultivating paddy in smaller quantities.
