Talk on Career Opportunities in Cloud Computing

A talk on “Career Opportunities in Cloud Computing” held on January 31, 2023, organized by department of Computer Science and Engineering in association with  ISTE student chapter, IEEE student branch, Co-Curricular Committee, Placement Cell and Alumni Cell was a valuable session for students aiming to pursue a career in the field of cloud computing. The distinguished speaker for the day was Mr. Rahul Thantri, alumnus of  SMVITM and an accomplished professional, who is currently working at Siemens in Germany. The session shed light on various aspects of cloud computing and highlighted significant opportunities within the industry.

               Mr. Rahul Thantri commenced the session by providing a comprehensive overview of cloud computing, elucidating its various models (Infrastructure as a Service – IaaS, Platform as a Service – PaaS, and Software as a Service – SaaS) and deployment types (public, private, and hybrid).The speaker emphasized the growing significance of cloud computing in the corporate world, illustrating how businesses across sectors are leveraging cloud services for enhanced scalability, flexibility, and cost-effectiveness. He also shared insights into the myriad career opportunities available in the field. He discussed roles such as cloud architect, cloud engineer, DevOps engineer, and cloud security specialist, highlighting the increasing demand for skilled professionals.
Being an alumnus of the college and currently employed at Siemens in Germany, provided a unique perspective on how Siemens is leveraging cloud technologies to drive innovation and streamline operations. He shared his personal journey and growth within the organization, demonstrating the global relevance of cloud skills.

He recommended two major cloud platforms – AWS (Amazon Web Services) and Azure Microsoft – as prime avenues for students to explore. Notably, he highlighted the accessibility of these platforms through programs like AWS Educate, which allows students to access cloud resources without the need for a credit card.
The speaker concluded by offering valuable advice to students interested in pursuing a career in cloud computing. He emphasized the importance of continuous learning, practical hands-on experience, and networking within the industry. The talk included an interactive Q&A session where students had the opportunity to seek clarification on various aspects of cloud computing, career pathways, and industry trends.
