The Department of Physics was established in the year 2010 and since its inception maintains a best creditable academic record in teaching and research. The Department currently has four dedicated teaching faculty. With its state of the art laboratories – including a research lab – and well-qualified faculty members, the Department of Physics strengthens the fundamentals of Engineering Physics in the first year students. The department has also been recognized as a research center by the VTU. Currently the department has one faculty member with Ph.D and two more are pursuing Ph.D. The department takes up quality research projects funded by various government agencies. At present, four part time research scholars are pursuing their doctoral research with the department. A research project worth around Rs. 15 lakhs funded by the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) – Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences (BRNS), Government of India has been completed. Another project worth Rs. 4 lakh has been sanctioned by the Vision Group of Science & Technology (VGST), Government of Karnataka under the Seed Money for Young Scientist for Research (SMYSR) scheme.
