NSS-YRC-RC

The National Service Scheme (NSS), Youth Red Cross Wing and Rotaract Club, NCC Unit of Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology and Management, Bantakal, Udupi, Indian Red Cross Society Blood Bank, HDFC Bank Udupi and Red Ribbon Club Udupi jointly organized Voluntary Mega Blood Donation Camp on December 3, 2024, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm in the college premises. The event saw enthusiastic participation from college students and faculty members, who came together to donate blood to the Red Cross unit, Kundapura.

The NSS-YRC unit of SMVITM organized a massive beach cleaning drive on the occasion of National Pollution Control Day on December 1, 2024, from 7:30 am to 9:30 am near Malpe Beach Sea Walk surroundings. The event saw enthusiastic participation from over 150 students and faculty members, who came together to clean up the beach and promote environmental  awareness.The beach cleaning drive was organized under the guidance of Department NSS Coordinators Mr.Raghunath,Mr.Jayaram Nayak,Ms.Reshma and Ms.Babitha Poojari. The students collected approximately 35 bags of litter, including plastic waste, glass bottles, and other non-biodegradable materials.The event aimed to highlight the importance of keeping our beaches and environment clean. The students were educated about the harmful effects of pollution and the need to adopt sustainable practices to protect the environment.

Department of Basic Science in association with NSS of Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology and Management organized a session on “Constitutional values: shaping India’s future” on 20-11-2024 at 3pm in the seminar hall of the admin block by Dr. P Anantha Krishna Bhat, Retd. Professor, Canara College, Mangalore was the resource person. Renowned expert Dr. P. Anantha Krishna Bhat delivered an enlightening session on constitutional values, emphasizing their significance in shaping India’s democratic society.

National Service Scheme popularly known as NSS, the scheme was launched in 1969; Mahatma Gandhi Centenary year. The focal objective of the scheme is the overall development of personality of students by providing them with the opportunities to participate in the community development service programs and enable them to get experience by exposure to the life outside educational institutions.  The scheme has brought NSS volunteers in direct contact with the community problems, needs and development processes. This enables them to plan and organize need-based programs resulting in creation of tangible assets. The student volunteers have successfully participated in National Priority programs like total literacy campaigns, health and sanitation, environment awareness and enrichment programs, etc. NSS is integrated with the curriculum/academic programs and also has helped to make education more relevant to community development, national goals, social and economic processes. National  Service  Scheme  (NSS)  is  a  permanent  youth  Program  under  the Ministry  of  Youth  Affairs  and  Sports,  Government  of  India.

MISSION

The motto or watchword of the NSS is “Not me but you”.  It  underlines  that  the  welfare  of  an  individual  is  ultimately  dependent  on  the  welfare  of  society  on the whole.  This  express  the  essence  of  democratic  living  and  upholds  the  need  of  selfless  service  and  appreciation  of  the  other  man’s  point  of  view  and  also  consideration  for  fellow  human  beings.

 Procedure to formulate the NSS-YRC-RC unit in SMVITM:

  • Rules, regulations and policies shall be formulated by the highest authority of the institution (The Management of the institution) and shall be put up to the Governing Council Members. Suggestions shall be incorporated by amending them.
  • A suitable person (who must be faculty of SMVITM) shall be selected, who must in turn drive the NSS-YRC-RC Unit ably in the right direction by abiding to the objectives and also to the management of the institution.
  • Head of all departments shall select a suitable faculty from each department who must assist the overall coordinator of NSS-YRC-RC and also to handle the departmental level assignments if any.

 Formulation of the student chapter of NSS and YRC office bearers

  • With the approval of the Principal and heads of all the departments the institutional coordinator for NSS shall form a student office bearer’s team who shall be competent enough to carry out the agenda of NSS for the academic year and along with that abide by the objectives and active involvement and participate in all the activities throughout the calendar year.

  • With the approval of the Principal and heads of all the departments the institutional coordinator for Rotaract Club shall form a student office bearer’s team who shall be competent enough to carry out the agenda of Rotaract Club for the academic year and along with that abide by the objectives and active involvement and participate in all the activities throughout the calendar year.

Selection of the president for NSS of the institutional student chapter

  • NSS coordinator with consent from the head of all departments must select suitable candidate as the president for NSS student chapter who is competent enough to lead the team office bearers and student volunteers.

Selection of the president for Rotaract Club of the institutional student chapter

Accumulation of student volunteers for NSS-YRC-RC

  • Overall coordinator along with the departmental coordinators shall be responsible to spread the spirit and message of NSS and gather large number of student volunteers for team NSS-YRC-RC.
  • A nominal registration fee of Rs. 100 shall be collected from each member which shall be later used for all the related activities.

Formulation of the academic calendar (Blue Print) of activities of NSS-YRC-RC

  • The institutional coordinator with the assistance of the departmental coordinator shall formulate the blue print of all the activities (with social impact) for the academic year and an efficient action plan shall be Planned in-order to execute the said activities.

Conduction of NSS-YRC-RC meetings

  • At least one meeting in a semester will be conducted with involvement of Overall Coordinator, Departmental Coordinator and all office bearers of the committee. Minutes of meeting will be prepared for the same.

 Conduction of NSS-YRC-RC activities

  • Informal meetings shall be conducted before execution of any event.
  • With Consent of Principal and HODs of all departments the final plan shall be approved.
  • Event shall be conducted with identified and reputed resource persons from outside if any.
  • NSS Camps shall be conducted once in every year.
  • An event file along with the report and photographs shall be submitted to the authority after the completion of every event.

Attendance list of students attending programs:

  • Office bearers are given the task of preparing list of students who attended the activity/Program under NSS-YRC-RC.
  • List of students who attended the program will be prepared by the office bearers and same will be forwarded to the Overall coordinator.
  • Overall coordinator will merge all that information and will prepare single list which indicates all attendees and will attest the same.
  • Particular attendance list will be send to all department HOD’s for further requirements.

Representing annual VTU Programme Officer’s meeting:

  • Institutional coordinator for NSS shall be the representative of annual meeting of VTU POs which is mostly held in Bengaluru. The developments, grievances of POs shall be discussed in the annual meeting.
  • Decisions taken in the meeting shall be implemented in the institution with suitable fine tuning.
  • General Plan of Action for conduction and execution of any event:
  • Planning all the events for the academic year in consent with the IQAC
  • Conduction of regular meetings and assigning roles and responsibilities to the committee members.
  • Selecting the resource person for the respective events.
  • Inviting them as per the protocol.
  • Looking after the arrangements
  • Conduction and execution of the events
  • Conducting concluding meeting an d reviving the event
  • Submission of the reports to the IQAC
  • Plan for the next event.

Conduction of Camps:

  • Seeking the financial grant from the affiliated university.
  • Preparing the best plan so as to the maximum utilization of the sanctioned amount

Reforming the NSS-YRC-RC team:

  • After each academic year NSS student chapter shall be dissolved after the annual day meeting and shall be reformed in the next academic year.

Reforming of objectives, Roles and Responsibility:

  • At any point of time the objective, Roles and Responsibility may be changed based on the requirement.
