The NPTEL (National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning) is a pioneering initiative by the seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras, and Roorkee) and the Indian Institute of Science Bangalore (IISc.) to provide high-quality video and web course content in engineering and science. NPTEL Open Online Courses offer students nationwide direct access to learning from faculty at these premier institutions. While enrollment and learning are entirely free, students have the option to earn a valuable certificate from the IITs upon successful completion of an exam, for which a nominal fee applies. This online learning platform provides an exciting avenue to delve deeper into subjects of passion.
The NPTEL Local Chapter at SMVITM was established in May 2016 with the visionary goal of augmenting the university curriculum with MOOCs (Massively Open Online Courses) from esteemed institutes like the IITs and IISc.

We understand the importance of flexible learning. Through our college library’s exclusive Android application, “mlibrary – Knimbus,” students can access NPTEL courses conveniently on their mobile phones. This allows for learning at their own pace and convenience, anytime, anywhere.
Through the support of the Language Lab, students have successfully undertaken and cleared various NPTEL courses related to soft skills and personality development. The facilities provided by the Language Lab, including media players for assignments and resources for exam preparation, have proven invaluable in achieving these certifications. Students have successfully completed courses of 4, 8, and 12 weeks’ duration, demonstrating their commitment and the effectiveness of our support system.
