IEEE

SMVITM organization has celebrated World IEEE Day on 7th October. Dr. Venugopala P. S., HOD, Department of AI-DS, NMAMIT Nitte, was the chief guest for the occasion. He inaugurated the program by lighting the ceremonial lamp. During his talk on the “Benefits of IEEE Membership,” Dr. Venugopala emphasized the importance of global exposure that IEEE provides to students and faculty. He discussed various networking opportunities through IEEE conferences, workshops, and technical societies that connect members with professionals and researchers worldwide.

IEEE was founded in 1884 with Alexander Graham Bell and Thomas Edison among its charter members. Today, IEEE serves over 400,000 members worldwide. Over 100,000 Student and Graduate Student members worldwide make up 25% of the membership of IEEE and are essential to its continued growth and vitality. Not only is IEEE the world’s largest technical and professional society, it also publishes a significant amount of the electrical engineering and computer-science literature in the world.

IEEE worldwide membership is geographically divided into ten Regions. These Regions are further divided into Sections that serve as the centers of activity for professional engineers at the local level. IEEE student branch of SMVITM (Code:STB10147) falls under Bangalore Section and Mangalore Sub Section in region 10.

IEEE’s core purpose is to foster technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of humanity.

IEEE will be essential to the global technical community and to technical professionals everywhere, and be universally recognized for the contributions of technology and of technical professionals in improving global conditions.

  1. Provide more opportunities, products, and services aimed at increasing our value to professionals working in the industry; particularly younger professionals and entrepreneurs.
  2. Ensure the vitality and relevance of our core activities in standards, conferences, education, and publications while providing increased value to our members.
  3. Develop programs in public service focused on knowledge and technology in our fields of interest, related to public policy and humanitarian efforts.
  4. Evaluate and adapt organizational structures and processes to meet the demands of a changing environment while managing the financial and sustainable health of IEEE.
