National Service Scheme popularly known as NSS, the scheme was launched in 1969; Mahatma Gandhi Centenary year. The focal objective of the scheme is the overall development of personality of students by providing them with the opportunities to participate in the community development service programs and enable them to get experience by exposure to the life outside educational institutions. The scheme has brought NSS volunteers in direct contact with the community problems, needs and development processes. This enables them to plan and organize need-based programs resulting in creation of tangible assets. The student volunteers have successfully participated in National Priority programs like total literacy campaigns, health and sanitation, environment awareness and enrichment programs, etc. NSS is integrated with the curriculum/academic programs and also has helped to make education more relevant to community development, national goals, social and economic processes. National Service Scheme (NSS) is a permanent youth Program under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India.
