Civil Engineering Project: An Innovative Way for Disposing Off PVC Dust in the form of an Environmental Friendly Alternative Construction Material

An Innovative Way for Disposing Off PVC Dust in the form of an Environmental Friendly Alternative Construction Material

The final year Civil Engineering Students of Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology & Management, Bantakal have developed a novel way for disposing off the PVC dust available as a waste material in PVC product manufacturing industries, which otherwise will go as a waste dump to the environment creating health hazards. The primary objective was to develop a construction material like concrete, by incorporating the industrial waste materials like PVC dust and, to convert it as an environmental friendly and cost effective construction material. Laboratory investigations were also carried out to compare the strength parameters of PVC dust concrete. The cost benefits were also analysed and found to be economical, which will surely have its impact in preserving the costly natural resources and also the environment.

This project work was taken up as part of their final year academic project and the team consisted of Mr. Rahul V. Kotian, Mr. Prasanna N. Bhat and Mr. Shashank G. Hegde, all of them belonging to the final year Civil Engineering discipline. This student project was very much appreciated and was also financially supported by Karnataka State Council for Science & Technology, Bangalore. The students were effectively guided by (Dr.) Anand V R, Asst. Professor (Sr.) in the Dept. of Civil Engineering. Necessary support for carrying out the project was provided by Prof. Dr. Radhakrishna S. Aithal, Principal, Prof. Dr. A Ganesha, Dean (Academics) and Prof. Dr. B Radheshyam, Head of Civil Engineering Department, SMVITM, Bantakal.
