Seventy-Eight students from SMVITM, representing the National Service Scheme (NSS) unit and the Youth Red Cross (YRC) wing of the institute participated in a rally organized as a part of the observance of the Geneva Convention Day in Udupi town on 12 August 2014.
On the occasion, the Udupi branch of Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) launched a fund raising program for its community service activities.
Shri Pattan Shetty, Deputy Commissioner, Udupi District, inaugurating the rally said that everyone should understand the Geneva Convention Day and come forward to raise funds for the noble cause of humanitarian services rendered by organizations like Red Cross. He congratulated the organizers on holding the rally and lauded the initiatives of the Red Cross in the district.
Chairman of Indian Red Cross Society, Karnataka state, Mr. Basrur Rajeev Shetty and Mr. Shridhar Shenava, Dr. Nithin Kumar Shetty, President, IRCS, Udupi district were also present.
NSS-YRC Coordinator, Nagaraja Rao; departmental coordinators, Mr. Krishnakumar and Mr. Narayana Nayak were also participated in the rally.
