Talk on “Gender Equity”

The Women Empowerment Cell of Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology and Management, Bantakal, organized a talk on “Gender Equity” for second year students of SMVITM on 26th August 2019 in Seminar Hall 3 of library block. Ms. Laxmi Shetty, Senior Assistant Professor in the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering was the resource person. The session highlighted on the fact that equal ease of access must be provided to resources and opportunities regardless of gender, including economic participation and decision-making; and the state of valuing different behaviors, aspirations and needs equally, regardless of gender in consideration with few examples and videos emphasizing on gender equality.

The session also covered Gender Sensitization wherein students were explained about the thought of discrimination which starts right from family members/ home and continues till organization level taking few examples from day to day interactions at home and workplace. She also created awareness about the need of gender sensitization in empowering women by providing equal opportunity (taking examples of famous personalities like Kalpana Chawla) and also about the need to educate the society regarding gender equity for the development of nation. The talk concluded by making a promise to bring change in the society to eradicate gender discrimination to overcome all the hurdles and develop nation. 64 students from 2nd year engineering and members of Women Empowerment Cell actively participated in the session.
