The women empowerment cell of Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology and Management organized the Teachers’ day and Engineers’ day together on 15 September 2018 with the theme “Women in Engineering” in the institution premises.
Dr. Santi Thilagam, Professor and Head, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, NITK, Surathkal was the Chief Guest for the event. In her address to the students she highlighted the various opportunities women are having in the current competitive world. She also shared few of the survey reports where she has identified drastic improvement in the women working in various career domains and finally concluded her talk by presenting various career and study opportunities in India and abroad specifically for woman pursuing Engineering.
Dr. Thirumaleshwara Bhat, Principal, SMVITM, was the president of the function. In his Presidential address he spoke on the relevance of celebrating Teachers day and Engineers day in the fond memory of Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan and Sir M. Visvesvaraya respectively. He recollected how they overcame their initial hurdles and achieved the career success and how they ended up receiving the prestigious Bharatha Rathna Award for their untiring contribution for the betterment of the society.
The co-curricular club of SMVITM, had organized various events on account of Engineers’ Day and the prizes were distributed to the winners by the Chief Guest Dr. Santi Thilagam.
The event witnessed the electronic release of the first volume of the college Newsletter “Samsmruthi” which was edited by Mr. Ananthesh Rao, Coordinator extracurricular committee in the hands of the Chief Guest.
Dr. Lolita Priya Castelino, HOD Mathematics and Coordinator of Women Empowerment Cell of SMVITM, Bantakal, welcomed the gathering and she was present in the dais along with the President and the Chief Guest.
Ms. Shinny Melita D’Souza, Asst. Professor, Dept. of CSE gave a brief overview about the life struggle of both Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan and Sir M. Visvesvaraya and highlighted the relevance of both Teachers’ Day and Engineer’s Day.
Ms. Aishwarya Asst. Professor, Dept. of Mathematics introduced the Chief Guest, Dr. Santi Thilagam to the audience.
The Students of the institution, Ms. Sahana Udupa did the invocation and Ms. Joythi Kamath compered the program.
The Vote of Thanks was proposed by Ms. Tejaswini H, Asst. Professor, Dept. of CSE. The program was concluded with the National Anthem.
The welcoming the guest was done in a technocratic way by a robot designed by the team of third semester CSE students headed by Mr Deepak Nayak.
Before the start of the function few games were conducted for the faculties, under the ages of extra-curricular club of the institution as a part of informal ceremony.
