Technical Trip to Dharmasthala sewage Treatment Plant and BORUKHA Power project

A technical trip was arranged for 6th Semester students of Civil Engineering Department by the Eco club-“Prakriti” and ISTE Student Chapter of SMVITM to Dharmastala Sewage treatment plant and Neria BORUKHA Mini Hydel power plant.

There were 42 students from 6thsem along with 4 faculty members. First, students were taken to vermin compost plant in Dharmastala where Manager Mr. Balakrishna Poojary explained students how wastes are collected from various sources in Dharmastala and process of production of vermin compost and the advantages of using organic manure over the other fertilizers. Later he explained benefits of recycling wastes for the sustainability of the environment. Next, students visited Sewage treatment plant in which the students were given a detailed explanation of process of waste water treatment by Supervisor Mohan.

In the afternoon students visited Neria Mini Hydel Power station which is located at Nidle village Belthangady Taluk, Dakshina Kannada District. Er. Ganesh Shetty explained about various components of dam and its functions. Later students were taken inside the power plant where functioning of the actual power plant was briefed.

The students were very much benefited by this technical trip since students had a practical experience of actual Civil Engineering structures along with their theoretical background.
