Counselling cell of SMVITM organized one-week workshop on “Effective Counselling” from 04/12/2017 to 09/12/2017. The program started with a quest for understanding the broad meaning of counselling with a detailed introduction aiming to know the essence of counselling in depth. A lot of misconceptions regarding the concept of counselling were nullified. Later, scope of counselling, it’s areas of applications, the normal dos and don’ts in counselling were discussed and also the ultimate goal of counselling was clearly elaborated by the trainer. After that, based on the theoretical aspects discussed a Group discussion was held with an agenda of trying to figure out how exactly counselling can help students to cope up with their psychological problems and issues. Practical counselling sessions were held where trainees were assigned roles to play and the activity go a lot of response from the involved faculty. It did really put the skills of the faculty to test and figured out the scope in the areas where a counsellor must excel themselves gradually.
Given certain cases, group discussion was held among the trainees intending to resolve them. All the trainees participated enthusiastically and gave away their opinions according to their perspectives.
Ms. Shashikala, Coordinator of Counselling Cell, welcomed the gathering in the inaugural function. Principal welcomed the resource with a flower and who gave a brief prelude and agenda of the workshop. He highlighted the need and importance of such programs in present academic scenario. Mr. B N Ramachandra, Dept. of CSE introduce the resource person Mr. Suresh to the gathering. He was the anchor of the program and proposed vote of thanks. Heads of various departments, members of the Counselling Cell, faculty, non-teaching staff were present in the event.
Last day in the feedback session, participants expressed their happiness for arranging such a useful program.
