The Yakshagana Club is the vibrant cultural heartbeat of our institution, dedicated to preserving and promoting the magnificent art of Yakshagana. This ancient theatrical tradition, whose very name translates to “song of the celestial beings” (Yaksha-gana), stands as coastal Karnataka’s most distinguished cultural treasure, flourishing for over 800 years in the districts of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada, and Shimoga.
Yakshagana represents a spectacular synthesis of dance, music, dialogue, elaborate costumes, and dramatic storytelling that brings ancient epics like the Ramayana and Mahabharata to life. This art form, deeply rooted in the Bhakti movement, serves not merely as entertainment but as a profound medium for cultural education and spiritual expression. Our club, comprising 40-50 dedicated students from various semesters, meets every Thursday from 3:00 to 4:30 PM under the expert guidance of renowned Yakshaguru Rakesh Rai Adka, founder of Sanatana Yakshalaya®, Mangalore.
