Information regarding admission to the Ph.D. programs at SMVITM.

Admission Process

Admission to Ph.D. programs is granted in accordance with the rules and regulations stipulated by Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi. Aspiring students who meet the eligibility criteria must take the VTU Entrance Test for Research (VTU-ETR). Successful candidates will then appear for a Pre-Registration Interview. The final list of selected candidates is notified by VTU.

Eligibility Criteria

Faculty of Engineering

  Possess a Master’s Degree in Engineering/Technology or M.Sc.(Engg.) by Research with a minimum CGPA of 6.75/10 or 60% aggregate marks.
• ✓
  Candidates with a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering/Technology with outstanding merit (minimum 7.75/10 CGPA or 70% aggregate marks) and published research or patents may also be eligible, subject to VTU approval.
• ✓
  Eligible M.Sc.(Engg.) by Research candidates may upgrade to the integrated Ph.D. program after two semesters, subject to merit and VTU approval.
• ✓
  Eligible M.Tech. candidates may upgrade to the integrated Ph.D. program after three semesters, subject to merit and VTU approval.

Faculty of Science

• ✓
  Candidates shall possess an M.Sc./M.Phil. Degree in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, MCA, or allied disciplines with a minimum CGPA of 6.75/10 or 60% aggregate marks.

Application Process

Eligible candidates must submit applications online for the VTU-ETR through the researcher portal (researcher.vtu.ac.in). The application is submitted via the login of the research supervisor under whom the candidate wishes to pursue their research. Necessary documents like degree certificates, marks cards, and employer’s certificate (if applicable) must be included.
