Hands-on Workshop on PLC Programming by Mr. Vignesh V Kini (Trainer-NITK-Siemens) on 20 August 2025

The Department of Mechanical Engineering, in association with the ISTE Student Chapter, Institution’s Innovation Council, and NITK-Siemens Center of Excellence in Digital Manufacturing, organized a one-day workshop on “Basics of PLC Programming” on 20 August 2025 for final year Mechanical Engineering students.

Mr. Vignesh V Kini, Trainer at the Factory Automation Lab, NITK-Siemens, served as the resource person. The workshop introduced students to PLCs and their applications, basic components, programming fundamentals (ladder logic, logic gates, timers, counters), and integration with HMI and SCADA systems. Hands-on sessions with PLC simulators gave students practical exposure to simple control tasks.

The workshop was coordinated by Dr. Bharath K Bhat (Departmental ISTE/IIC Coordinator). Dr. Bharath K Bhat and Dr. Manjunatha S accompanied the students. A total of 17 students participated in the session.
