The Department of Computer Science and Engineering, in association with the ISTE Student Chapter, organized a half-day workshop on “3D Photogrammetry” on 10 October 2025 at F107 Lab, SMVITM. The session was conducted by V. Inbasekaran, Shreya, Shruti Niranjana Rao, and Supriya Bhat from the 7th Semester CSE, for the benefit of second and third-year students.
The workshop introduced participants to 3D modelling using photogrammetry, a technique that creates digital three-dimensional representations of real-world objects using multiple images. The session explained how photogrammetry helps in visualizing and analyzing objects in virtual form for applications in engineering, architecture, and research.
During the workshop, participants were introduced to Agisoft Metashape, a software tool that converts 2D images into realistic 3D models. Students learned the process of loading and aligning images, masking unwanted parts, building a point cloud, generating 3D models, and applying textures to create detailed digital representations.
The session also included hands-on practice, where students actively participated in loading images, aligning them, and generating their own 3D models. This practical exposure helped students understand the real-world applications of photogrammetry and modern 3D modelling techniques.
The workshop provided valuable insights into 3D model development and research applications. The event was coordinated by Deepak Rao M, Department ISTE Coordinator, and witnessed enthusiastic participation from the students.
