SMVITM Team Bags 3rd Place at Vijnatham Utsav 2026 for “CROP MATE” Smart Farming Project

Students of Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology (SMVITM) achieved notable success at Vijnatham Utsav 2026 (13th Edition), a national-level competition held on 19–20 February 2026 at Sri Adichunchanagiri Mahasamsthana Math, Mandya, Karnataka.

A team comprising Bhushan Poojary, Shreekiran Bhat, Shreyas Acharya, Amrutha, Vishritha, and Prajwal Gulvadi from the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science secured Third Place in the competition. The event brought together innovative student projects from various institutions across the country and evaluated them based on creativity and innovation, scientific principles, technical skills, societal impact and scalability, economic viability, and presentation.

The team presented their project under the theme “AI and IoT in Agriculture for Food Security (SDG 2 – Zero Hunger)”. Their project, titled “CROP MATE: Multilingual Crop Detection Based on Sensor Values,” focuses on improving agricultural productivity through AI-based analysis and IoT technology. The system integrates soil sensors and intelligent recommendations to help farmers identify suitable crops and make informed decisions, thereby enhancing crop yield and supporting sustainable farming practices.

The achievement highlights the students’ innovation and technical capability in applying emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence and IoT to address real-world challenges in agriculture and food security. The institute congratulates the team for bringing recognition to SMVITM through their commendable performance at the national-level event.
