The two-day national conference on Emerging Trends in Science and Engineering (NCETSE 2017), organized by the Departments of Basic Sciences of Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology & Management, Bantakal was inaugurated by Dr. Prakash Raghavendra, PMTS, AMD India Ltd., Bengaluru on 23 February 2017.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Prakash Raghavendra, told that the people from academia and industry must come together and share the knowledge for the betterment of society. In industry people have the option of working on cutting edge technologies, while academicians have the freedom of working on which they want. The conferences of this type give platform to discuss and share new knowledge created through research.
Mr. Rajashekara V Maiya, Associate Vice President, Edgeverve Ltd., Bengaluru, who was the guest of honour on the occasion, said that the science and technology made the country pride. It is the technology which helped the government to take certain harsh and quick decisions like demonetization.
Dr. Kajari Ghoshdastidar, Computer Scientist, Edgeverve Ltd., Bengaluru who was the guest of honour on the occasion appreciated the efforts of the institution in organizing the conference in which experts of different areas came together and shared their expertise.
Mr. Ratnakumar, Secretary Shri Sode Vadiraja Mutt Education Trust, Udupi presided over the inaugural function. Dr. Thirumaleshwara Bhat, Principal, welcomed the gathering and Dr. Ravindra H J, Convener of the conference proposed the vote of thanks. Ms. Laxmi Shetty, Ms. Sowmya Bhat and Ms. Ramyashree introduced the guests. Ms. Sahana Karanth compered the program.
The inaugural function was followed by a keynote address on Deep Neural Networks and it relevance to High Performance Computing by Dr. Prakash Raghavendra. Mr. Rajashekara V Maiya, Dr. S.M Hegde, Professor, Dept. of MACS, NITK, Surathkal, Dr. John Kiran, Renishaw India Pvt Ltd, Dr. Manjunath Pattabhi, Professor, Dept. of Materials Science, Mangalore University, Dr. Ramesha, Principal Scientist, CSIR, Chennai Dr. Appu Kuttan K K, Former Director, NIT Bhopal gave guest talks in different sessions. More than 80 research papers were presented by researchers, academics and students from across the state.

NCETSE 2017, was concluded on 24 February 2017.Speaking on the occasion, chief guest, Dr. Manjunath Pattabhi, Chairman and Professor, Dept. of Materials Science, Mangalore University, opined that today illiteracy is the state of mind where one does not want to learn new things. It is very important to take up challenging tasks and conferences of this type will surely give new directions and thoughts for innovation. He quoted Dr. Kalam whose visiting day is being celebrated as National Science Day in Switzerland.
Dr. Appu Kuttan K K, Former Director, NIT Bhopal, guest of honour, said that the researchers must work on making ideas into reality. It is true that all ideas won’t realize, but the impact that working out ideas makes is big.
Dr. Ramesha, Principal Scientist, CSIR, Chennai, who was the guest of honor on the occasion invited students to take up research and innovation as career. He quoted many ideal personalities who dreamt, hard worked for the welfare of the society.
Dr. Manjunath Pattabhi released a CD containing the conference proceedings on the occasion and Dr. K. K. Srinivasan, Prof. & Head of the Department of Chemistry at the Institute, presented a summary of the proceedings. Shri Rathnakumar, Secretary, Shri Sode Vadiraja Mutt Education Trust, Udupi presided over the function. Dr. Thirumaleshwara Bhat, Principal, SMVITM was present on the dais.
Dr. Vasudeva, Prof. & Head of the Department of Computer Science & Engineering of SMVITM welcomed the gathering and Dr. Lolita Priya Castelino, Head of the Department of Mathematics proposed a vote of thanks.
